Project Description
Project Status: Released
In Botography, you're a botanist thrust onto a fantastical island with fascinating plant life. With few supplies at your disposal at the core of an uncharted landscape, the environment will be your greatest ally and worst enemy. You must find a way to save this harsh setting from the ravages of human intervention armed with a mobile lab for growing plants, a map in the making, and your moxy.
Botography is a senior project developed by Project Bitter Root, a team of 16 artists, designers, programmers, and sound engineers at Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA, USA.
My Experience
September 2023 - June 2024
As technical director, I led our six-person programming team. I managed the task assignments of our scrum board, leveraged my programming knowledge to influence design decisions, took the lead on the project’s technical documentation, designed the game’s programmatic architecture, and oversaw the quality of code for the game.
This senior project was a significant challenge that tested my abilities as a programmer, a leader, and a teammate. One of the most significant difficulties was the cross-department communication. This is the first project I worked on that required me to actively establish the programming-art pipeline and communication.
This also was my first foray into writing the complete requirements specifications for software. It’s a task I greatly enjoyed, as it gave me the chance to utilize my writing abilities while participating in the design of the game and asking thoughtful questions.
